In The Money: Daniel Levy’s multimillion-dollar windfall is getting closer after Everton’s update regarding Dele Alli

According to the Daily Mail, Daniel Levy and Tottenham have increased their chances of getting up to £10 million from Everton when Dele Alli returned to first-team training on Merseyside.

On December 14, the newspaper reported that Alli had returned to first-team training at the club’s Finch Farm training base to participate in various exercises and gym work.

The agreement between Tottenham and Everton for the sale of Alli stipulated that Spurs would get £10 million if Alli made 20 appearances for Everton. With the latest fitness update, that goal is getting closer.

Sean Dyche previously revealed [Daily Mail, 3 November] that Everton‘s Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell, was in conversation with Levy about possibly altering that price, and while nothing has been confirmed, given the conditions of the sale, it appears probable that an agreement will be made.

The Times recently claimed [9 December] that Everton had rejected Tottenham’s offer to decrease the fee to £8 million in exchange for reducing the number of appearances required to attain that threshold.

As things now stand, Alli is seven games away from activating the £10 million deal, and with his presence in first-team training, he is edging closer to a return to action, which would see him achieve that figure in due course.

Dyche acknowledged that the midfielder still has a long way to go before being considered for the first-team squad again due to the protracted period of injury as duration since his last competitive game, and that he would be given a programme to get him back up to speed before his comeback.

This bonus, which is presently set at £10 million but appears likely to be reduced, could be poured straight into Ange Postecoglou‘s team to enhance the depth of a squad that has already been called into question this season.

With each new event, Levy inches closer to receiving the additional transfer windfall agreed upon in the sale of Alli. Perhaps not one he would have anticipated to receive sooner considering the amount of time since the midfielder departed Spurs, but one he will nonetheless receive.
