Tottenham could be planning something major behind the scenes.
A rival club’s insiders are said to be “convinced” that Tottenham is “lining up a bid” to sign one of their top transfer targets.
Lange is hard at work behind the scenes.
Johan Lange, who arrived from Aston Villa on November 1st, has officially begun work on identifying Spurs transfer prospects for the winter window.
As manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged in a news conference on Friday (via football.london), plans for new Spurs additions are “well away” and Lange is personally heading the drive.
“I guess the challenge for us was that they all came at once because it hasn’t been staggered,” Postecoglou said of Tottenham’s injury woes, before providing an update on their transfer ambitions.
“The planning for January is far from complete.” Johan [Lange] has arrived and is in charge of all the background work.
“My involvement and my own kind of ramp up to it as we get closer to January and understanding exactly what our requirements are at the moment, although work has been done in the background with Johan leading it and bringing in some people to help him in that area.” We’ll collaborate with him when the time comes.”
Spurs rumoured January targets
Long before Lange, the north Londoners were linked with a new left-sided centre-back, with Tottenham especially keen to boost that section of the squad following Micky van de Ven’s injury.
Spurs are interested in Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, and the agent of Genoa’s Radu Dragusin confirmed this week that Tottenham is in talks to sign the defender.
“I’ve been in London for quite some time and have almost weekly meetings with important teams,” Dragusin‘s representative Florin Manea told Fanatik.
“We’re getting there. I talked to Newcastle, Arsenal, and Tottenham. I also have the messages and talks with them. There are teams that inquire.”
Meanwhile, there have been rumours that Tottenham are looking for a new winger and even a striker to replace Harry Kane in 2024.
Spurs are expected to make a bid for Toney, according to club insiders.
Ivan Toney of Brentford is one of the associated alternatives, having scored 20 goals in the Premier League alone last season.
Chelsea insiders are “convinced” Spurs will move for Toney, according to The Sun, however Postecoglou‘s side denies this.
Indeed, the west Londoners believe Tottenham are “lining up a bid” for the 27-year-old, who is also one of Chelsea’s top targets to address their striker shortage.
Chelsea officials are reportedly bracing for a three-way struggle for Toney’s services, with Arsenal also a candidate.
The Brentford star, dubbed “underrated” by Football Analyst Statman Dave, is expected to return from a suspension for alleged gambling violations in mid-January.
