Joël Piroe, who joined Leeds United last summer, has had a successful debut season.
The offensive midfielder has 12 goals and an assist in 33 games with the Whites.
Voetbalzone had a long conversation with the 24-year-old, and one of the subjects covered was his decision to join Leeds.
He joined the Championship club from Swansea City, where he scored 20 goals and provided two assists in 45 games last season.
His performances for the Welsh team drew attention from the Premier League, but he chose Leeds because they “gave him confidence”.
On his decision to join Daniel Farke‘s side, he said:
“At Leeds, I can fully dominate my position, so that I’ll be there when we are promoted to the Premier League. Last summer, I already had alternatives in that competition, but sometimes you join a club that is fighting relegation or you are picked up as a the 19th man.
The Dutchman has been happy with his time at Elland Road so far and remains optimistic that the Whites can return to the top level next season. Leeds are currently in third place.
Piroe also expressed a wish to move to Spain in the future, citing his childhood memories of watching Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“I grew up at a time when Barca and Real Madrid were the biggest clubs in the world,”
Piroe said.
“Every El Clasico was enjoyable to see. It would be fantastic to play in Spain one day, but the Premier League has grown so powerful in recent years that no one can ignore it anymore. It is currently the world’s largest and greatest competition. I want to try that first.”
The former PSV Eindhoven player has also hinted at a potential comeback to the Eredivisie in the future.
When asked about his near-term objective, he replied: “In the near future, I want to play in the Premier League with Leeds and I also want to show that I can score my goals at that level.”
So it’s Premier League with Leeds United, possibly Spain, and then a return to Dutch football.
