Latest Tottenham news after the 1-1 draw against West Ham, with James Maddison making his thoughts clear before a Premier League showdown with Nottingham Forest.
James Maddison has responded to Tottenham‘s early replacements ahead of their Premier League meeting with Nottingham Forest. The England international made a welcome recovery from an ankle injury in January, but he has battled to regain his best form from the first three months of the 2023/24 season.
Given the string of early substitutes, Postecoglou was asked about Maddison, and his response was telling, acknowledging in his news conference: “He is not carrying a knock. If he had a knock, he would not be playing. “He’s fine, yes.”
When asked about his performance at the London Stadium, Postecoglou remarked, “I thought Madders was really good, especially when he got into their final third.” I think he made some very clever passes that we just didn’t profit on.
“I think for all the guys in the front third area – not just the attacking players, the full-backs as well, we got into some really good areas, it’s just about trying to show them that they don’t need to be so rushed in their decision making and we’ll get better outcomes.”
Spurs have an opportunity to rectify such difficulties this Sunday when they face Nottingham Forest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Maddison has given a clear message on social media ahead of the match as he looks to regain his form.
On Instagram Stories, he remarked, “Refocus on Sunday now. Back home [home emoji]. “See you in N17, @SpursOfficial fans [white heart emoji].” Given the lacklustre showing at London Stadium, Postecoglou will be looking for a better performance at home – and he may make additional changes to achieve that.
Brennan Johnson, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Micky van de Ven all started against West Ham, although each had a varied performance. Johnson continued his fine form by scoring his fifth goal of the season, while Van de Ven and Bentancur both failed to establish their dominance.
With that, Pape Matar Sarr‘s return to midfield is imminent, while Richarlison might be the impetus to make Spurs’ assault run more smoothly this weekend.
