Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min was lauded by pundit Jamie Carragher for his work rate against Manchester City on Sunday.
Son Heung-min‘s effort in Tottenham‘s 3-3 draw with Manchester City should serve as a model for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
That is Jamie Carragher‘s assessment of both Son and Rashford, as reported by Sky Sports.
Tottenham’s Son opened the scoring in their 3-3 draw with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs refused to give up and came from behind twice to earn a point at the Etihad Stadium.
Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur has been praised by Jamie Carragher.
Son scores frequently, but it appears that a goal against City holds a particular place in his heart.
That brings his total against City to eight goals in 18 appearances, but Sunday’s performance was about more than simply his goal.
Son put in a great shift as the spearhead of Tottenham’s assault, demonstrating his exceptional work rate once more.
The South Korean is 31 years old, but he shows no signs of slowing down, and Tottenham have seen him step up with the captain’s armband this season.
While analysing Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford, pundit Jamie Carragher has now switched to laud Son.
Rashford appeared entirely uninterested in United’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday, prompting many to question his work ethic.
Carragher believes that Manchester City is possibly the worst spot for an opposing forward to play because you have to do so much running and won’t get much of the ball.
Carragher believes Son executed that role flawlessly on Sunday, complimenting him for ‘not stopping running’ and acting like a true ‘leader’ and ‘captain’ in Tottenham‘s draw.
The former Liverpool defender didn’t see any of it from Rashford and believes the United striker should be showing the same determination as Son rather than appearing uninterested.
Rashford, a local player who rose through the ranks at Old Trafford, was challenged by Carragher to pull everyone up with him at United.
“There must be no more difficult place to go as an attacking player, a centre forward, a lone striker than away at Man City – you’re not going to get much of a kick,” Carragher told the BBC. “Son didn’t stop running and yeah, he got his goal and he was involved and he’s a good player, but when you talk about the real great players we’ve seen in this league attacking-wise, you think of Mo Salah and Mane, you think of some of the players Manchester City has had, and you saw Son today, he didn’t stop running.” Today, away against Manchester City, that was a captain and a leader.”
“We’re not asking for goals and assists from Rashford; they’ll come, as we’ve seen in the past.” What you’re asking for is leadership – it doesn’t matter who he’s playing with, those players have got to look up to him and go ‘he is Manchester United, he’s what embodies this football club and he’s gonna drag them up with him’, because that football club is an unbelievable football club, and it will get back to the top, that will happen, but it’s Marcus Rashford‘s job – more than anybody in that squad, because he’s local – to drag that team with him,” he added.
