Jason Cundy slammed “dirty” Leeds United for pushing Chelsea all the way in Wednesday’s (February 28) FA Cup clash.
Leeds took the lead, then levelled at 2-2 after going behind, until Conor Gallagher scored in the final minute of normal time.
Daniel Farke’s side battled their high-spending Premier League opponents all the way, but veteran Chelsea defender Cundy was unimpressed.
“Leeds. Dirty Leeds. “I couldn’t care less [about them],” he stated on talkSPORT [29 February, 10:06 pm].
Leeds United shifted their focus back to the Championship Cundy is undoubtedly aware of the longstanding animosity between these two clubs, so his views should be taken with a grain of salt.
Leeds more than held their own at Stamford Bridge and will probably wonder what could have been on another day.
Even with Chelsea‘s alterations following their Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool, Leeds can be proud of their performance.
The disappointment of losing so late in the last-16 tie can now serve as further motivation – as if any were required – as the season nears its end.
After exiting the cup, the focus is now on gaining promotion from the Championship, ideally through the automatic positions.
Whatever the outcome, Leeds fans are anxious for this Chelsea fixture to be played twice a season in the Premier League again.
Based on United’s performance thus far in 2024, there is no reason why that aim is not currently attainable.
In other Leeds United news, a Whites kid is undoubtedly in Daniel Farke’s mind after receiving an award this week.
