Joe Gelhardt’s initial remarks as a Hull City player highlight his significant Leeds United issue

Gelhardt has signed a loan deal with Hull City for the remainder of the season.
According to Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt, one of the main reasons he decided to go on loan was the opportunity to receive minutes in the Championship as a reward for his diligent preparation. The 22-year-old has finalized an agreement that will see him spend the rest of the season with Hull City, another team in the second division.

Starting with Saturday’s Championship trip to Millwall, where he is anticipated to make his debut, the striker, who has battled for regular game at Elland Road this season, will look to restore his form and confidence while playing under Hull manager Ruben Selles.

With just three starts since the 2022–2023 season began, Gelhardt has failed to make an impression on the team. He has only started one game for Leeds this season, the 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Middlesbrough in August. Even with Bamford’s injury issues, there hasn’t been much hope for a run out because Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, and Mateo Joseph are in the hierarchy above him and Farke usually starts only one of the three.

Gelhardt is Hull’s second January transfer window acquisition after Matt Crooks arrived last week. He has already liked what he has seen in East Yorkshire and trained with his new teammates on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“It’s a happy moment for me,” he told Hull‘s media staff. I’ve discussed the club’s plans and direction with the manager, and I’m eager to get started and play.

Working with the manager excites me. He thinks I play better off the nine, perhaps slightly behind or off the right. My ideal positions are as a striker or directly behind one, where I strive to help the team score goals and win games.

“Every football player hopes to put in a lot of training throughout the week in order to play on the weekend. I haven’t experienced that in a few years, so I’m eager to resume playing and relive the matchday atmosphere.”
