On Boxing Day, Forest traveled to St. James’ Park in an attempt to exploit a faltering Magpies team.

After there was little to no contact within the area, the penalty was awarded and Alexander Isak put Newcastle ahead.

Despite this, Forest persevered and managed to find a leveler when Anthony Elanga set up Chris Wood for a close-range tap-in.

Following the interval, Wood pushed Forest ahead with goal number two before settling in for his and Forest’s third goal, capping an incredible hat-trick on Tyneside.

For Wood, Tuesday’s victory and his personal valor will have meant a great deal. In January 2022, Newcastle bought Wood from Burnley, but Isak rapidly moved him down the hierarchy in a matter of months.

Newcastle let Wood to leave on loan to Forest, with the agreement eventually becoming permanent, after Wood managed just five goals in 39 appearances. With three well-executed goals, Wood gave the Newcastle supporters a taste of what he’s all about.

Since Tuesday’s victory, Forest supporters have been screaming about Wood, and it appears that defender Joe Worrall shares same sentiments.

Following the final whistle at St. James’ Park, Worrall can be seen heading down the tunnel in a video that Forest shared on social media.

Clearly impressed by the New Zealand international, Worrall said, “Unbelievable,” pointing at Wood with his match ball.

Worrall made his first Premier League appearance in two months as he entered as a late replacement to finish off Forest’s victory. Going forward, the 26-year-old will undoubtedly want to see Wood continue to score goals and will be hoping for more opportunities.

Wood now has four goals in two games and seven for the season. With Taiwo Awoniyi sidelined, Wood will now lead Forest’s strikers.
