Following the confirmation that Luke Ayling had left Leeds United to sign a loan with Middlesbrough, John Terry expressed his affection for the right-back
Despite just moving on loan to Boro, Ayling, 32, wrote a farewell letter to Leeds supporters on his personal Instagram account on Wednesday, January 10, following the announcement of the move. His Elland Road contract will expire this summer, and it doesn’t appear that it will be renewed.
Many current and past Leeds players responded to Ayling by praising the right-back as one of the team’s “modern greats” with David Prutton, who currently hosts the major EFL show on Sky Sports.
Former Chelsea and England defender Terry just responded with three blue hearts, and Ayling received messages of gratitude from darts world champion Luke Humphries and musician Ellie Goulding for his time at Elland Road.
Terry’s response to Ayling’s transfer announcement is unclear.
It’s difficult to predict where their careers will have intersected looking back because, as a player, Terry was only ever connected to England, West Ham, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa; as a coach, he was only ever connected to Aston Villa and Leicester.
The only genuine connection we can find is that Ayling was named Terry as her idol in Football Manager, even though Terry wasn’t associated with any of those teams. Ayling was born in London.
That’s an odd one, and one that might come up during a trivia night in Leeds eventually.
What is the commonality among John Terry, Ellie Goulding, Luke Humphries, and Adebayo Akinfenwa (yep, he also replied)? Luke Ayling sent a farewell message to Leeds United, and they all responded.
That would make for a really strange dinner party
Though we will miss Ayling as a character, this change is long overdue, and we’re eager to see who Daniel Farke can bring in to replace Bill. Ayling has been a fantastic servant for Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, when conditions are agreed upon, one player who is leaving the team is wounded by what supporters have said about him.
