With Pep Guardiola almost certain that Kalvin Phillips will leave Manchester City during the forthcoming transfer window, it is up to the player to select the best project for his future.
The immediate future, of course, is the European Championship, so Phillips must be front and centre at his new club in order to remain completely in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts when it comes to selecting his Three Lions group for Germany.
Several clubs were said to be interested in the 28-year-old’s services, and it appears that he has already decided where he wants to end up next.
“He has other options available to him.” “I believe he’s very interested in the Newcastle idea,” journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport.
“But if you have clubs like Tottenham potentially knocking on the door and West Ham, as well, then there are other places that perhaps will be better suited to him.”
With all three prospective new employers flying high at the top of the Premier League table, a move to any of them wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Each plays in a distinct way, and Phillips’ decision may simply be dictated by his gut instinct.
At the very least, he’ll be back on a football pitch, which can only be good for the player and, maybe, his new team.
