Liverpool will try to maintain their Premier League lead as they go to Nottingham Forest this weekend.
Fixtures continue to come thick and fast for Jurgen Klopp’s injury-ravaged Reds, but they are soldiering on and continuing to impress.
Liverpool won the Carabao Cup over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium last Saturday and then thrashed Southampton 3-0 at Anfield the following week.
The Reds will now face the European Cup winners from 1979 and 1980, who must recover swiftly from a late-midweek FA Cup loss to Manchester United.
On the Liverpool injury front, things are looking up, with Klopp hinting on Friday that many players could return to action.
“Darwin and Dom trained with the team yesterday,” Liverpool’s manager told the Reds media team. They looked fine, but we’ll have to wait and see how they react.
Wataru and Robbo didn’t, but there is the plan that they join in today, that’s the idea but we have to see if that really works out.”Ibou, nothing; it [his not starting versus Southampton] was simply time-sharing. Lucho is fine, and Macca is fine. Everyone seemed to be in good health.
“I don’t think Mo is too far off, but he will not feature tomorrow and from there we have to go.”
Dominik Szoboszlai‘s comeback would be a significant boost for Liverpool.
With Liverpool’s midfield in such awful shape right now, it’s encouraging to hear that Szoboszlai could return for the Forest game.
Admittedly, he has missed a lot of games this year owing to injuries. Indeed, he has only made three appearances for Liverpool since the beginning of January.
However, with the Reds lacking options in the middle of the park, Klopp may likely try to bring him back from the start.
Let us hope he is fit enough to do so. Klopp‘s statement that he looks good hints this could be the case.
Szoboszlai is a “unbelievable” player who provides speed, physicality, technique, originality, and much more, so if he returns, Forest will be in for a difficult afternoon.
