After a 5-1 victory in Prague, the Reds are well in control of the last-16 tie halfway through. Darwin Nunez scored twice, Alexis MacAllister converted a penalty, and Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai also found the net.
However, the victory was overshadowed by Konate‘s substitution early in the second half. Virgil van Dijk replaced the centre-back after he pulled up during a Sparta attack.
Liverpool have had serious injury concerns recently, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Thiago Alcantara,

Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic, and Ben Doak are all now sidelined.

The Reds will now prepare to face Manchester City on Sunday in what promises to be a seismic clash for the Premier League title. Only a point separates the modern competitors. According to TNT Sport reporter Danny Jamieson, who spoke with Klopp after the game, Konate came off to ensure his injury would not worsen. Jamieson wrote on X (previously Twitter): “Jürgen Klopp tells me post-match that Ibrahima Konaté’s substitution was precautionary – ‘he said if he carried on, it may be a problem so we will see’.”

Speaking to reporters, Klopp stated, “We don’t know [yet].” Ibou stated to me when he passed me in that moment: ‘I thought if I did another sprint, it would be horrible’. So he claimed he should be alright, but we’re not sure. Joey’s fine. We took him off because he had played a lot of games, so it was more rotation and precaution. Now let’s check what’s up with Ibou.”
