Leeds are ‘absolutely’ in the race to sign Ben Godfrey

Leeds United are interested in acquiring Everton defender Ben Godfrey, although they may face competition from clubs throughout Europe.

Leeds United are interested in signing Everton defender Ben Godfrey. According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, they will face competition from Sheffield United and clubs from abroad. Godfrey is currently struggling for game time at Goodison Park and may leave before the transfer window closes. Daniel Farke could be looking for a new centre-back, particularly one who can cover various positions.

The Whites are trying to return to the Premier League at the first attempt, so reinforcements may be required to assist them get there.

Godfrey joined Everton in 2020 for about £20 million from Championship side Norwich City. The England international has been an important player and had some impressive performances throughout his time with the Toffees, but he has slid down the pecking order under Sean Dyche.
Leeds faces competition for Godfrey.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds are one of the clubs interested in Godfrey, although he would prefer to move abroad, with AC Milan also interested.

IItalian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Italian team Genoa is also interested; 777 Partners, who have agreed to buy Goodison Park, also own Genoa. A departure could be likely, especially with the Toffees requiring the finances, but Leeds may have difficulties in the competition due to certain top-level sides competing.

Godfrey has played in a variety of positions throughout his career, which might make him an effective adaptable choice for Farke. The Yorkshire club has already lost two full-backs, Djed Spence and Luke Ayling, in the January transfer window, so finding a guy capable of playing on both sides of defense would be very useful.

Dyche, the Everton manager, recently addressed Godfrey’s future, although he was unable to provide an update on if anything was near to a departure.
Ben is doing extremely well; his professional demeanor is exceptional, and he is well respected in the group. He hasn’t had as much game time as he’d like, and he’s obviously annoyed by it, but he’s not frustrated with me or the scenario; he’s frustrated not to play, but he’s a terrific professional who continues to push himself and the group, and that’s the type of guy he is.

Alex Crook – Godfrey discussions are taking place.

Crook has stated that Leeds, along with Sheffield United and other clubs, are interested in signing Godfrey this month. The talkSPORT reporter adds that discussions over a potential trade are now underway, although Everton would prefer to sell him rather than loan him out with only 18 months remaining on his contract. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Crook stated

” They’re definitely one of the clubs in for Godfrey as are Sheffield United, and I think some overseas clubs. The stumbling block there is that he’s got 18 months left on his deal. So I think ideally, Everton would like to sell him or if they loan him he’s going to have to sign a new contract to protect his value. So I think those conversations are happening as we speak”.

Wilfried Gnonto – Future Update

Wilfried Gnonto was the summer transfer window’s main story at Elland Road. The Italian international made it obvious that he wanted to leave the club, submitting a transfer request with Premier League side Everton vying for his signature. The youthful forward eventually stayed with the Yorkshire club for the first half of the season, but with the January transfer market now open, questions over his future have resurfaced.

It is claimed that a number of clubs are still interested in the 20-year-old, with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano suggesting that nothing is close or imminent despite teams’ expressed interest. According to The Athletic, Gnonto is about to sign a new contract with the club.
