Newcastle United will leave Ryan Fraser on Tyneside when they travel to the Premier League competition in the United States, according to the Chronicle, despite suggestions that Leeds want the Scotland ace. On Sunday, Newcastle will play Villa.
Fraser, 29, made only eight appearances for Newcastle last season, and there are rumours that he has been demoted to the club’s U21 squad for training. He did not play in either of Newcastle’s two pre-season games.
He was nowhere to be seen at Ibrox on Monday night after missing the 3-2 away win against Gateshead. Despite having two years left on his £63k-a-week contract, Scotland’s star looks certain to leave this summer. Leeds is rumoured to be looking.
According to the Sunday Mirror (9/7; page 74), Leeds and Southampton are competing for Fraser, with both teams expected to be in the running for promotion from the Championship and an immediate return to the Premier League in 2023-24.
According to The Chronicle, Fraser will not be flying to the United States with the rest of the Newcastle group. The Toon meet Aston Villa on Sunday in Philadelphia, and Fraser will be absent due to family obligations in the North East.
According to Leeds, Newcastle will exclude Fraser from the USA tournament.
Leeds has numerous choices. A deal for Fraser is simply contingent on Leeds selling players like Jack Harrison, Willy Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra, and Cree Summerville. It is uncertain how many of those players will go.
Harrison and Gnonto are both likely. Sinisterra was, until recent rumours indicated that he is now willing to stay. Summerville is interested in the Dutch talent. Dan James, Helder Costa, and Ian Poveda have all returned to the club following loan periods.
