Leeds attacker suffers back injury; Gruev receives additional blow – Adam Pope

Leeds United: Injury updates for Ilia Gruev and Joe Gelhardt at Elland Road

Ilia Gruev and Joe Gelhardt have both suffered new injuries at Leeds United, with the latter experiencing a back spasm, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC correspondent noted via his X account on February 28 that, in addition to the two listed, Georginio Rutter was hurt, and Patrick Bamford did not train on Monday.

It was also reported that Daniel Farke hopes to have a stronger squad for the Championship match against Huddersfield on March 2, with players returning after missing the 3-2 setback to Chelsea.

Leeds United injury blows begin to pile up at Elland Road.

Daniel and Gruev
Gruev and Rutter have both played crucial parts in Farke‘s first-choice team this season, and their loss will be felt, but the Elland Road club’s depth should allow them to cope.

If there is one game you don’t want those players to miss, it’s probably an FA Cup match against Premier League opponents rather than a key league match in their quest for automatic promotion.

Farke‘s expectation that certain players will be able to recover for the match against Huddersfield is encouraging, since the injuries are not expected to be long-term issues or concerns that could derail their season.

Rutter‘s absence was most noticeable against Chelsea, with Joel Piroe struggling to fill his shoes. However, shifting Archie Gray into midfield to replace Gruev was fruitful, as he received good plaudits for his performance at Stamford Bridge.
