Leeds is in the lead to sign the 15-goal Aston Villa player in January.

According to sources, Leeds United might have the advantage in the competition to recruit Louie Barry, a striker for Aston Villa, on loan in January.

Barry scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances across all competitions during his incredible first half of the season while on loan at League One team Stockport County.

In January, Leeds United hopes to outbid Chelsea for a highly regarded midfield player!

This comes after he helped the Hatters win the title and get promoted last season by recording nine goals and four assists in 20 League Two games.

Barry, though, will only play two more games for League One fifth-place Stockport before being called up by Aston Villa at the beginning of January.

Barry believes he has “earned” the opportunity to compete with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran in Unai Emery’s team, but Villa will evaluate him before determining his future course of action.

“Returning to Villa is the main objective right now, and I believe I have earned that now,” he stated. “I want to demonstrate to them my abilities upon my return and perhaps make a breakthrough. That is the main objective.

According to recent sources (via Leeds United News), Barry might be loaned to a number of Championship clubs in January.

Among the teams reportedly interested are Leeds, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield United.

Though Sheffield United has Tyrese Campbell and Kieffer Moore at their disposal, and Sunderland’s recent form has been patchy, it is believed that Boro’s interest isn’t as strong, which might give Leeds an advantage in the fight to sign Barry.

Barry will play his final two Stockport games away at Rotherham United on December 29 and Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day.
