As new Everton photos emerge, Jack Harrison may have played his final game for Leeds United.
Loanee from Leeds United Jack Harrison may have played his final game at Elland Road, as photographs of him enjoying life at Everton after returning from injury surfaced.
Everton used a loan departure option that became active following United’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
The Toffees will cover Harrison‘s wages, but Leeds will miss out on a large compensation for the winger if they were expecting to cash in.
The Englishman is yet to make his debut for the Toffees due to a hip injury, but is expected to return to full fitness in late September, according to BirminghamLive (August 15), and was a rare standout in Leeds‘ relegation-ending campaign last season.
And Harrison might make a return to Elland Road if Leeds United are promoted from the Championship next season.
Everton, on the other hand, posted images of Harrison training alongside his new team-mates on their official website on Thursday [14 September], and he certainly appears to be enjoying life on Merseyside as he steps up his recovery, suggesting that the Premier League final-day relegation defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on 25 May could certainly be his last in a Leeds United shirt.
The departure of Harrison last month was a crushing loss for Leeds, especially given the circumstances surrounding his departure.
The exit clauses came back to haunt the Whites all summer, with as many as 10 first-team stars leaving to seek greener pastures elsewhere due to the club’s Championship woes, and that might happen again next season.
According to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay on The Square Ball podcast [9 September], there may be a similar condition in Harrison’s contract if Leeds do not win promotion from the Championship this season.
It essentially means that the Whites are draining money from Harrison each season he is in the second tier.
The former Manchester City academy graduate may have been a valuable asset for Daniel Farke, but the Championship was a significant step down for him, especially given that he is now in his prime years.
Everton were perfectly within their rights to use the exit clause, and if Harrison proves to be a success at Goodison Park, both parties will be keen to continue their association on a permanent basis.
