Leeds lose out as Klopp’s “really good” midfield player at Liverpool is sold after Slot approves the deal.

Bobby Clark, a midfielder for Liverpool, Fulham, and Sunderland, was signed to the Liverpool academy in summer 2021 after the Reds agreed to pay the Magpies a development fee of approximately £1.5 million for his services.

He signed a five-year deal at Anfield shortly after turning 17 in February 2022, and he is now bound to the Merseysiders until summer 2028 after extending his stay with a new deal in December of last year. Liverpool and Red Bull Salzburg are still in talks to sell Clark, though Leeds are among a number of Championship teams expected to lose out.

Clark, who is still only 19 years old, has only made 14 professional appearances for the Reds, only five of which have been in the Premier League, due to the intense rivalry for first-team spots at Liverpool.

Following that, a number of Championship teams expressed interest in signing the player on a season-long loan, including Leeds, Norwich, Coventry, and Sheffield United. But now that Slot has made the decision to let the midfield player go permanently, talks to sell him to RB Salzburg, the reigning Austrian champions, are in progress.

According to reliable Liverpool reporter James Pearce, Salzburg made a second offer for Clark on Monday for €9.6 million (£8.2 million), but Liverpool rejected it because the Austrian’s first offer was just €7 million (£6 million).

Talks over the sale of a midfield player at Liverpool are still ongoing.

In fact, sources have informed TEAMtalk that the Reds value Clark at around €14.1 million (£12 million), and that negotiations between the Reds and Salzburg are still ongoing in the hopes of reaching a resolution.

For his part, Clark is ready to transfer, believing that joining Salzburg—who play FC Twente in the Champions League’s third qualifying round on Tuesday with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg—will be extremely beneficial to his career.

Clark is reportedly eager to make the move, which would also naturally reunite him with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders after his hiring earlier this summer, especially because playing UCL football is on the horizon.

Leeds and other teams will lose out on the deal, however TEAMtalk believes the Whites merely looked into a possible loan approach to the Merseysiders for the teenager as they attempted to replace the departures of Glen Kamara and Archie Gray in their midfield.

Though it’s unclear if Liverpool will look to include a future sell-on percentage in Clark’s deal, as they did with Carvalho, the possibility of a buy-back option cannot be ruled out.

The player’s departure will be noted by former manager Klopp, who told Amazon Prime in December 2022 that Clark was “another famous name in England, and the kid is a really good player as well.”

Fabio Carvalho, on the other hand, joined Brentford on Monday, and Sepp van den Berg, Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon, and James McConnell are all in talks to leave.
