If Leeds United doesn’t get promoted, they might have to loan defender Max Wober out again this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 26-year-old played on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach for the entirety of the 2023–24 season.
Ahead of their final three games of the season, Daniel Farke‘s team is engaged in a promotion race with Southampton, Ipswich, and Leicester.
In the most recent update in the race, on Saturday, April 13, they lost 1-0 to Blackburn at home.
If Leeds loses, they may be compelled to make a U-turn because it is thought that another short-term agreement is more likely. Leeds will be eager to sell Wober and their other loaned-out talents on a permanent basis.
That will put a significant hole on finances, which are already stretched thin without the riches of Premier League football.
Leeds could be forced to loan Wober again after a setback in the promotion battle.
Last Friday (9 April), Leeds declared a £34 million loss in their 2022-23 finances, as well as a £190 million transfer fee owed to other clubs.
There was no mention of a buy option when Wober formally joined Gladbach last summer (2023), and he is expected to return to Elland Road this summer.
Football Insider has already disclosed (14 March) that the Austria international is unlikely to be part of Farke‘s team in the future, even if Leeds are promoted.
The 26-year-old made only 19 appearances for Leeds before leaving the club temporarily last summer (2023).
He has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Gladbach this season and is a frequent starter in the Bundesliga.
