Leeds United transfer news: Daiki Hashioka loan twist revealed at Elland Road.
According to the Daily Mail’s Mail Plus, a deal for St Truiden‘s highly-rated Daiki Hashioka was “there for the taking” for Leeds United before Luton Town stepped in to secure his signing.
According to the newspaper’s newsletter [29 January], the Whites had the possibility to sign the full-back but instead requested a loan arrangement due to concerns about the player’s recent injury.
It is understood that the Hatters were ready to sign Hashioka on a permanent basis, with the signature scheduled for later on Monday (29 January).
Too slow.
Though the Hashioka news is recent, it appears that Daniel Farke’s team missed out on an enticing deal. Some may argue that it is better to be safe than sorry, but Luton may have gotten a good deal as a result.
Given Leeds‘ quest for a new full-back before the transfer market closes on February 1st, the Whites may regret missing out on the Japan international, who can cover either flank.
The vacancies left by Djed Spence and Luke Ayling have yet to be addressed, which could cost Leeds later in the season. For the time being, Junior Firpo is in excellent form, while Archie Gray is at ease playing out of position.
Many Leeds fans are dissatisfied with the quantity of departures compared to arrivals, with Leo Hjelde, Darko Gyabi, Spence, Ayling, and Robin Koch all potentially leaving without replacements.
Given Farke‘s obvious desire to bring in a new full-back, one would expect the club to be more active in making a deal. There were clearly risks to consider, and St Truiden became impatient.
