Leeds supporters will love Patrick Bamford’s one-word response when asked who he would like to lead England next.

Manchester United’s Patrick Bamford will be content when he retires because he was able to represent his country once.

In September 2021, Bamford received his one and only Three Lions cap from Gareth Southgate during a 4-0 victory against Andorra at Wembley. Bamford’s England debut was only compensation for the finest season of his career, which he had just finished playing in the Premier League for Leeds.

The 30-year-old scored 17 goals in Leeds’ inaugural Premier League season and carried over that success into the 2021–2022 campaign, scoring a goal and providing an assist in the first three games.

Regretfully, Bamford hasn’t been the same since earning his England cap because, after just two games, he had an injury that limited him to 122 minutes of play for the rest of the year.

Marcelo Bielsa claims England, says Bamford.

Like the rest of the nation, Bamford is a long way from returning to the international scene and for now, he can only observe as a fan. With Southgate’s decision to step down as manager after eight years in command, England appears to be entering a time of change over the next few months. The facts do not lie, even though Southgate’s style of play drew harsh criticism during Euro 2024. He is currently the second-most successful manager in England history based on his performance in international competitions.

Bamford was asked on the most recent episode of the “My Mate’s A Footballer” Podcast who he would like to take the place of the player who gave him his international debut. Bamford responded immediately and with a simple “Bielsa” that Leeds supporters would appreciate. During their time together at Leeds, Bielsa was the one who put his faith in Bamford and helped him grow, so it comes as no surprise to hear the 30-year-old throwing his hat in the ring.

Since Bielsa left Leeds in February 2022, Bamford has spoken of him so highly. Bielsa is undoubtedly someone who may alter the country’s dissatisfaction with Southgate’s style of play.

Bielsa would always stay in Uruguay’s team.

After being fired by Leeds, Bielsa took a break from football for a while, but he is back in command of Uruguay and is doing a fantastic job. Bielsa has led Uruguay to the top of the South American World Cup qualification standings after victories against Argentina and Brazil. He has also assisted Uruguay in making it to the Copa America semifinals.

Bielsa’s contract with Uruguay expires at the World Cup in 2026, and given his past performance as manager of Leeds, it seems unlikely that he will leave the team before then.
