Leeds’ turbulent season has taken another turn as it has been claimed that first-team players will be sold

Despite Daniel Farke’s efforts to steady the ship at Elland Road, Leeds endured a rocky start to their 2023/24 season.

49ers Enterprises has new owners, Farke has been named manager, and there have been a number of incoming and exiting moves.

Much of the transfer business was completed after the Championship season had begun, thus it took the German a few weeks to see anything approximating a settled starting XI.

It is to his and his players’ tremendous credit that they have fought their way into third place and a ‘best of the rest’ position behind the league’s runaway leaders, Ipswich Town and Leicester City.

With Championship games coming thick and fast, things can change in the blink of an eye, and Farke will undoubtedly hope that consistency on the pitch will lead to better things later in the season.

It is also critical for the Yorkshire-based club to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.

That’s because, according to Phil Hay in The Athletic (subscription needed), if the All Whites stay in the Championship, they may be forced to sell a lot of its first-team talents.

Willy Gnonto, Charlie Cresswell, Joe Gelhardt, and others may have to make way.
