Leeds United Are Interested in 85-Cap International

Leeds United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ben Davies, according to Phil Hay’s story in The Athletic

Davies is no longer Tottenham‘s starting left-back, with Destiny Udogie taking over the position. Leeds are now interested in the Welsh defender, who could provide him with guaranteed game time on a weekly basis. He has played 85 times for his country since his debut in 2012, thus the Championship club could not add someone with much more experience if a deal is done.

A full-back is a top priority for the Whites during this transfer window. Spurs returned Djed Spence from his loan at Elland Road this month, and Luke Ayling also went on loan to Middlesbrough, where Michael Carrick plays. Cover is required in the position, and the team has identified some targets. The 30-year-old, who played some of his youth football with Swedish club Viborg FF, is one of five defenders on the club’s current shortlist. Leeds are also keeping an eye on talents like Ben Johnson, Ryan Giles, Connor Roberts, and Neco Williams. All of the players are struggling for game time at their respective clubs and would benefit from a move to Yorkshire to find more game time.

Ange posst

has called on Davies multiple times this season, but mainly to cover injuries. The defender has filled in at centre-back for the previously injured Mickey Van De Ven and Cristian Romero, and has done admirably in the games he has played.

Aside from that, game time has proven challenging, and this is unlikely to alter as the season progresses. Despite this, the report indicates that Spurs are unlikely to authorize a transfer. They are short at the position, and another injury crisis like the one they’ve recently suffered would find the team requiring someone like the former Swansea man in the squad.

Ange Postecoglou

The Whites are still monitoring the situation in case the London club makes a signing before the window closes, resulting in the defender being a loan prospect.

Writer’s perspective

Davies’ versatility makes him an ideal signing for Leeds. The Welsh international, who has made 222 appearances for Tottenham, can play left-back, left centre-back, and left wing-back, making him a versatile player. It would be a tremendous boost for Farke‘s side, which is currently deficient in various areas.

Postecoglou, on the other hand, is quite likely to want to keep a player with his number 33’s expertise, thus the Whites may have to go elsewhere for a new full-back. Williams from Nottingham Forest should be an easy transfer to complete given the Premier League club’s recent punishments.
