Leeds United are likely to slide to third place in the Championship following this weekend- David Prutton

Leeds United face Leicester City tonight, hoping to close the gap to six points, but failure would mean they fall behind Southampton and Ipswich Town.

The Whites play their biggest game of the season at Elland Road tonight against Leicester City, hoping to extend their incredible winning streak to nine games in a row.

Enzo Maresca‘s Foxes will be a tough test for obvious reasons, but Leeds should be confident of extending their home unbeaten streak this season.

David Prutton predicts Leeds vs Leicester.

David Prutton, a Sky Sports broadcaster, has made his latest Championship predictions ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

Starting with tonight’s match against Leeds, he believes the Foxes will leave Elland Road with a point in a 2-2 draw, bringing an end to their eight-game winning streak:

Leeds are in outstanding form. They have raced into second position after eight consecutive victories, surrendering only one goal in the process. And have the opportunity to turn the screw and try to break away from Ipswich and Southampton below them.

Leicester still has a massive lead, but it might get smaller if they lose here. They fell to Leeds in the reverse fixture and are coming off a defeat at home to Middlesbrough. Will they be a bit nervous? They may if Leeds takes an early lead, but I’ll go with a tie and a few goals here.”

Prutton’s predictions also included a look at Southampton’s home game against Neil Harris’ Millwall, as well as Ipswich Town‘s game against Birmingham City.

Prutton predicts that both the Saints and Ipswich will win three points: Southampton 3-1 Millwall, Ipswich 2-1 Birmingham.

Such a win would return Leeds to third position on 70 points, with the Tractor Boys overtaking to reach 72, and Southampton level on 70.

No team can afford slip-ups in this top-two race.

Leeds have been fantastic in 2024, winning eight out of eight games, but now is not the time to slip up again.

While losing to Leicester, or even drawing, would not be disastrous, giving up second place is not ideal.

The two teams behind us are now seeking to jump us, and our game against Leicester is their best chance, especially because they are both at home against weak opponents.
