Leeds United are on the verge of a £4.3 million windfall, with a 50% obligation about to be met

Diego Llorente of Leeds United has an obligation-to-buy clause in his Roma loan deal that will be activated if he plays in 50% of the games this season, which he is already on track to do.

Leeds allowed a slew of players to leave on loan during the summer window, generally against their will due to contracts awarded by the previous regime.

Diego Llorente was hardly a household name, having spent the second half of the season at Roma as Leeds were relegated.

Llorente transfer: 50% appearance clause revealed

According to Roma Metropolitan Magazine, Llorente’s loan contract includes an obligation-to-buy clause that will be activated if he appears in 50% of Roma‘s games this season.

The Spaniard has been a key member of Jose Mourinho‘s back three this season and might be a permanent signing for €5 million (£4.32 million).

Llorente has been a much more essential member of Roma‘s defence this season than Rasmus Kristensen, who joined him in the Italian capital this season but has struggled to replicate his success from Red Bull Salzburg.

How close Llorente is to leaving Leeds has been revealed.

There’s no knowing where Llorente’s 50% mark will be this season, but Roma played 55 games in all competitions last season, including Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Europa League.

Roma went all the way in Europe, losing on penalties in the final, but were eliminated in the quarter finals of their sole home competition.

That means 23 games was the 50% criteria last time out, and the 30-year-old has already made 20 appearances this season.

Due to injuries to fellow center-backs and the probable absence of Evan Ndicka due to AFCON, Llorente appears to be guaranteed to activate that appearance provision in his contract, regardless of what 50% looks like this season, higher or lower.
