Leeds United could now see a £15.5 million prospect sign with Chelsea after missing out on him last year

Milos Kerkez, a former target for Leeds United, might now join Chelsea after impressing in his debut season at Bournemouth.

Leeds United invested on a new left defender in 2021, signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona.

That was regarded as a significant signing, but Firpo performed inconsistently in the Premier League.

Leeds were so connected with signing another left back in January 2023, as Jesse Marsch sought to keep the club afloat.

Max Wober eventually arrived to reconnect with Marsch, providing an option to play both left back and centre back.

Leeds considered alternative options, but a January 2023 objective may now feel like a missed opportunity.

Milos Kerkez is wanted after Leeds United expressed interest.

In January 2023, talkSPORT reported that Leeds were interested in signing Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar.

It was claimed that Leeds wanted to compete with Bournemouth and Leicester City for Kerkez.

Leeds were offered a £15 million price, but they did not sign it, and the club was relegated to the Championship.

That put Leeds out of the running for Kerkez, who instead signed with Bournemouth, where he has impressed this season.

The Cherries paid £15.5 million to get Kerkez to the Vitality Stadium, and it looks like money well spent.

Reporter writer Ben Jacobs, speaking with The United Stand this week, stated that both Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing Kerkez.

The Hungarian international is regarded as a top left back for the future, having impressed in the Premier League at the age of 20.

Kerkez could be on his way to a big move this summer, which would be disappointing for Leeds.

Missing out on a quality player is always painful, but seeing him leave for large money just 18 months later is difficult to accept.

Kerkez may have been a missed opportunity for Leeds, and the Whites will have to hope to locate similar potential elsewhere, especially if they get promoted back to the Premier League.
