Leeds United could sell three players to fund their January spending spree, including a £25 million star.

A number of players have been linked with a move away from Elland Road this winter.

Leeds United travel to Rotherham United in the Championship on Friday night, looking to move closer to the automatic promotion places.

If Daniel Farke‘s team wins, they will be five points behind Ipswich Town and Leicester City, who both play this weekend.

The Whites are currently third in the league table and are on track to compete for either automatic promotion or a play-off spot as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League.

Leeds were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, which resulted in a slew of first-team players leaving Elland Road, either permanently or on loan, including Rodrigo, Tyler Adams, Jack Harrison, Marc Roca, Robin Koch, and Max Wober, among many others.

However, the club’s impressive form in the Championship so far may not be enough to keep them from losing more of their star players when the January transfer window opens.

Other clubs are reportedly interested in signing some of Farke’s key players ahead of the second half of the season, and the Whites may lose some key players at the start of 2024.

However, selling large assets could provide funds for the German tactician to spend in the transfer market to help his team’s promotion push.

With this in mind, here are three players who could leave Yorkshire in January, allowing Leeds to go on a spending spree.

1. Pascal Struijk

Pascal Struijk, the towering central defender, has had a fantastic start to the 2023/24 season and has been a key figure at the back for Farke at Championship level, earning him interest from elsewhere.

Struijk has started 15 of the club’s 16 league games this season and has demonstrated his defensive abilities, assisting his team in keeping six clean sheets.

The left-footed titan has recovered 6.9 balls per game and won 59% of his duels, demonstrating that the young gem can consistently win possession back for his team while also winning the majority of his physical battles.

He has also made no errors that have directly resulted in an opponent’s shot or goal, and he has yet to concede a penalty. This demonstrates how dependable the 24-year-old colossus has been for the Whites this season in defence.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri recently claimed that Club Brugge is interested in signing the Leeds star in January for €15 million (£13 million).

However, there is no guarantee that the Whites would be willing to sell him in the middle of the season, let alone for that price, so there is no immediate concern about his future.

If the club decides to raise funds to bring in more additions to their squad, Struijk could be an option if Club Brugge expresses their interest with an offer.

2. Crysencio Summerville

Crysencio Summerville, another impressively talented forward, has been linked with a potential move away from Elland Road this year.

The Dutch magician has been in incredible form this season, and clubs at a higher level have taken notice of his second-tier performances.

Football Insider reported earlier this month that two unnamed Premier League clubs are interested in the Leeds youngster, who was signed by Marcelo Bielsa from Feyenoord in 2020.

The outlet also stated that the Whites value him at a minimum of £25 million and believe that if they win promotion to the top flight, his price will skyrocket, which is why they are hesitant to cash in during the upcoming January transfer window.

Summerville has been an outstanding contributor at the top end of the pitch for Leeds, leading the club in goals (six) and assists (five) in the Championship, with Joel Piroe (six) and Georginio Rutter (five) joint-top for goals and assists.

The 22-year-old wizard has also provided the most key passes (2.8) per game and is tied for first with Rutter in dribbles completed (2.4) per game.

His terrific forward play has been exciting to watch, and losing him would be a significant blow, based on these statistics, which is why the club will be eager to keep him.

However, £25m is a significant sum of money, and they may be put to the test by Premier League clubs in January, who may provide the Whites with an opportunity to reinvest that money back into their squad ahead of the second half of the season.

3. Wilfried Gnonto

Finally, Wilfried Gnonto, who has had a difficult start to the season, could be sold in January after being linked with a move away from the Yorkshire-based club at the start of the year.

TEAMtalk reported at the end of October that Everton, Lazio, and Roma are all interested in signing the Italy international, who is said to be open to a move in January.

According to the report, the 20-year-old talent agreed to join the Toffees during the summer transfer window, but Leeds refused to sanction the move.

It is now reported that the Whites are seeking a fee in the region of £25 million for the former Zurich star, bringing the total potential incoming sum to £63 million if the club decides to cash in on Gnonto, Struijk, and Summerville for the reported fees.

Gnonto may be the most realistic sale right now because he hasn’t had the impact on the pitch that the other two have had so far this season.

In ten Championship appearances, including six starts, the Italian dynamo has one goal and one assist. He has missed two ‘big chances’ and created none for his teammates, in addition to his dismal 0.5 key passes per match for his teammates over those ten games.

According to these statistics, the Everton target has not been a consistent performer this season, and raking in a

fee could be a fantastic piece of business by Leeds, who could then reinvest that money to improve their squad.
