Daniel Farke had been reluctant to remove anyone from his Leeds United team this month, but it appears that stance has shifted.
Following the dramatic early termination of Djed Spence’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur, Luke Ayling and Darko Gyabi joined Middlesbrough and Plymouth Argyle, respectively.
Farke had already informed his squad that no one would be departing during the current transfer window, but a behind-the-scenes dispute with one player suggests a permanent departure is now likely.
Charlie Cresswell is thought to be dissatisfied with his lack of game time this season, with his father Richard stating as much on Instagram before the FA Cup win over Peterborough United earlier this month.
According to Leeds Live, the Whites have rejected multiple permanent bids for the 21-year-old, including one from his former loan club Millwall, where he spent the previous season.
Leeds rejects repeated Cresswell proposals.
Leeds are apparently looking for roughly £5 million for Cresswell, with Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough also keen in the 21-year-old.
Despite Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper’s injuries, Cresswell was not even named to the bench at Cardiff on Saturday, which is likely to be a strong indication that his future lies elsewhere.
Farke claims he will not pick Cresswell for the foreseeable future unless his attitude improves, after the ‘excellent’ young defender became upset with his lack of opportunity.
Cresswell has just played one minute of football for Leeds since the end of August, and it appears best for all parties if he leaves between now and the end of January.
While some supporters may be disappointed that Cresswell will never have the opportunity to thrive at Elland Road, from a commercial standpoint, it will be pure profit for Leeds.
