According to The Scottish Sun on November 20, Leeds United want to sign Cape Town Spurs attacker Luke Baartman in January.
According to the newspaper’s website, Baartman is one of South Africa‘s best prospects, having only made his senior league debut in October.
Celtic have been listed as additional clubs interested in the young talisman, with major English clubs also thought to be interested as the competition for him heats up.
Despite still being in school, the 17-year-old is being projected for a “huge” future in the game, as he prepares to take the next step very soon.
Celtic are not reported to regard Baartman as a first-team player right away, therefore it’s logical to presume Leeds are in the same boat as they look to expand their academy every year.
Options.
Academy football and signings in that sector are growing increasingly popular, with the money spent just increasing with each passing year.
It comes at a time when Manchester City has signed a record amount with Leeds to sign Finley Gorman, and the club will be hunting for fresh talent to replace him [Phil Hay].
If Leeds were to sign Baartman, he would likely not be a straight replacement, but he would join a squad full of attacking talent like Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph eager to break through.
However, it appears like Celtic are the most likely opponents for this acquisition, so a January move could make sense for all sides.
With the first-team well established under Daniel Farke following an outstanding summer of signings, there may be a greater emphasis on younger players in January.
This is the first of several links that will most likely be released in the following month before the action begins.
