Leeds United is vying with three Premier League clubs for a 24-year-old

Leeds United are among the clubs interested in signing Genk defender Mark McKenzie, according to Belgian daily Voetbal Nieuws.

Leeds United are ready to let club captain Liam Cooper leave Elland Road, and with Pascal Struijk‘s future uncertain, the club may look to the transfer market to fill the void.

They do have Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham, but they may be searching for a permanent fixture in the squad and could sign one this month. According to Voetball Nieuws, they have identified Genk centre-back McKenzie as a potential target, although there will be competition.

According to the report, Leeds United is one of five clubs interested in signing the 24-year-old. The Championship side, along with Premier League trio Brighton and Hove Albion, Everton, and West Ham United, as well as an undisclosed Bundesliga team, are all interested.

May struggle to compete.

Leeds United will struggle to compete with Premier League clubs for McKenzie‘s signature. Playing in the Belgian league today, the defender is likely to desire to play at the best level possible, and a chance to play in the top tier would likely be preferred over the Championship.

Of course, if the Whites are promoted, they may join Brighton, Everton, and West Ham next season, but there is no certainty. McKenzie is likely to examine his choices and priorities before choosing on his next club. Daniel Farke‘s team will be aiming to get their guy.

Farke already stated that they want to maintain their treasured assets as a priority this season rather than adding to their roster. As a result, instead of pursuing McKenzie, it may be more advantageous to focus on retaining Struijk.

Recent developments indicate that Leeds United will complete a £5 million deal.

Farke is keen to sign a “real threat” for Leeds.
