According to The Sun, Torino is interested in signing Josh Doig from Leeds United in a player-plus-cash deal during the January transfer window.

Torino are closing in on a transfer for the Scotland full-back with a player-plus-cash deal of £3.5million plus add-ons, a 10% sell-on clause, and highly-rated Lithuanian teenage midfielder Gvidas Gineitis going on loan to Verona, according to the newspaper’s website [7 January].
Rangers and Monza are also reportedly interested in the former Hibernian defender, who previously won Scotland’s Young Player of the Year award in 2021 before joining Hellas Verona in the summer of 2022.

There is yet some hope

Doig is under contract at his present club until 2026, and it could take a hefty price to entice him away from Verona. Since joining Serie A, the 21-year-old has made 35 appearances and scored twice.

Despite starting 10 of their 19 games this season, the kid has only played 90 minutes once. ailment has hampered his current campaign, as he was sidelined for a month in September due to an ankle ailment.

After recovering, he was called up to the Scotland senior squad for the first time since September 2022, with Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, and Aaron Hickey all missing.
Doig is a clear talent who drew attention to the Scottish Premiership during his time at Hibernian, where he made 79 appearances and lit up the league.

While Verona’s bid is a significant setback for the Whites and Daniel Farke, it is expected that the Serie A outlet will not go much higher than their present offer if it is rejected. This means that Leeds still have a chance to recruit Doig as they continue their quest for a new full-back.

Allowing Djed Spence to return to Tottenham Hotspur from his loan spell six months early has created a loan spot in the team that the Scot may fill.

In unrelated Leeds United news, the club may contact a player’s agency in order to finalize their first January move.
