Leeds United manager Daniel Farke admits big injury blow ahead of the Leicester City fixture

Throughout his career, the striker has played Leicester nine times, scoring one goal and winning two.

Leeds United will be without Patrick Bamford for Friday’s game against Leicester City after the striker was sidelined for another 10 days with a calf injury.

The attacker, who has five goals this season, missed Saturday’s Championship match against Plymouth Argyle, and manager Daniel Farke admits he does not expect him to be fit in time for the league leaders’ visit.

Bamford has been in good form since the turn of the year, scoring in four of his six Championship outings since New Year’s Day. He missed the midweek 4-0 victory over Swansea City owing to his injury, and his boss does not expect him to return until the club’s FA Cup match against AFC Bournemouth later this month.

On Friday, Farke said of Bamford, “He has some problems with his calf.” We don’t expect him to be out for very long. I do not expect him to be available for Leicester. We believe he will return for the cup game or the league match following.”

Bamford has only scored once in nine career games against the Foxes. Meanwhile, left-back Sam Byram and two others are expected to miss the encounter against Leicester, but Leeds will welcome back another defender this week.

Luke Ayling and Pascal StruijkFarke added: “Sam (Byram) has hamstring issues and will be unavailable for this game or Leicester. Jamie Shackleton is back and ready to go. It’s excellent to have one more. We have Stuart [Dallas] and Pascal [Struijk] out, but everyone else is good.”
