Leeds United may be obliged to sell player for below last summer’s £18 million price tag.

One of Leeds United’s attacking studs was the target of bids last summer, but with the player eager to leave, the 49ers may have to accept offers at a reduced fee this summer.

Leeds lost out on Premier League TV money due to their defeat to Southampton, and with a massive £190 million in outstanding player transactions, the 49ers must make some money at Elland Road.

Winger Willy Gnonto is one player who is expected to go, and the sales of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterrs will help ease those problems, but more work needs to be done to reduce that number to a tolerable quantity.

Of course, last summer, Gnonto refused to play for Leeds as he attempted to complete a transfer. Last August, the Italian refused to play against Birmingham City, Shrewsbury Town, and West Bromwich Albion.

Now that the team has failed to earn promotion, players will have to be sold, and Gnonto is eager to return to Serie A, while Everton may make another attempt to get the former Inter star after signing Jack Harrison.

Leeds may have to sell Willy Gnonto for less than £18 million price tag.

Everton made two bids for Gnonto last summer, the latter for slightly shy of £20 million. But Leeds informed fans that Gnonto would not be sold, and they remained steadfast, but this summer is different.

Leeds needs to balance its books, and Gnonto is one sellable asset that will attract attention. According to a fresh rumour from Calcio Mercato, Gnonto is ‘waiting’ to leave Leeds and is ready to say ‘goodbye’.

It also reports that Leeds will have to sell him for less than the original £18 million price tag. AC Milan, Fiorentina, Torino, and Sassuolo all had interest before Gnonto relocated to Elland Road from Zurich.

Gnonto is one of five players expected to leave Leeds.

Following the defeat to Southampton at Wembley, Jon Newsome projected that five Leeds players might leave in the summer. He foresaw Joe Rodon’s return to Tottenham Hotspur.

He is just on loan, so it makes sense before announcing that Leeds will sell Crysencio Summerville and Gnonto, as well as suggesting that Ethan Ampadu and Dan James will be available in the summer.

Leeds need to sell players, and if the club can get anywhere near the £18 million they wanted last summer, it must be done. Gnonto desperately needs a change following a disappointing 23-24 season.
