Leeds united: Red tape hits transfer push for Ben Johnson in January window

The Mirror claims that Leeds United’s ability to bid on Ben Johnson during the January transfer window may be hampered by Conor Coventry’s exit from West Ham

The tabloid stated on its website [January 13] that Johnson and Danny Ings’ departures from London Stadium may be prevented since Coventry was one of David Moyes‘ eight homegrown players in his 24-man roster.

Leeds is reportedly interested in signing the Hammers right-back on loan after club legend Luke Ayling left the team and the player’s injuries have been bothering him this season.

In east London, Johnson remains a local player despite the red tape surrounding any potential trade. This month, the Hammers will intensify their efforts to recruit the well-known Jack Clarke, who might potentially improve the situation.

The secret is patience

With Johnson’s contract running out at the end of the current campaign, it might be easier for Leeds to wait until the summer transfer window to get the West Ham man into Elland Road.
There are numerous defenders who are superior to Johnson, despite Daniel Farke’s apparent desperation for a new full-back. For the most part of this season, Moyes has ignored the 23-year-old, who has primarily played for the Under 23s team.

And even though he has made 93 senior appearances for the Hammers since June 2017, it appears that his time with the team is drawing to an end since there has been no word on a possible contract extension.

A full-back with greater skill than the West Ham defender is Djed Spence. His attitude, though, probably lost him his last half-year with Leeds as they aim to advance to the Premier League. Rather, he will be participating in football in Italy after serving as a bargaining chip for Radu Dragusin of Genoa.
