Leeds United are expected to hunt for a new center-back this month.
Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon have cemented their place as Daniel Farke‘s first-choice pairing, but with Charlie Cresswell and Liam Cooper’s futures unknown, there could be a shift.
has been widely linked with a move elsewhere, which looks increasingly possible following Daniel Farke‘s comments yesterday, while Phil Hay reports that Cooper‘s contract, which expires in the summer, is not anticipated to be renewed.
Leeds United are thought to be interested in signing Hammarby’s Nathaniel Adjei and are expected to meet with the Swedish club this week.
They will, however, face tough competition for his signing, and they may be better off pursuing a young Premier League centre-back who has been told he can leave this month.
Leeds should move for Forest’s Omabamidele
Andrew Omabamidele of Nottingham Forest should be that man. According to journalist Tom Collomosse, the 21-year-old is one of many who may leave City Ground before the window closes.
Nuno Espirito Santo, the club’s new manager, is said to like working with smaller squads. Forest are currently the polar opposite, given how many signings they have made in the last 18 months.
Omabamidele was one of 14 summer signings, however his only two outings for the club have come in the EFL Cup earlier this season. In the Premier League, he has only appeared on the bench twice.
The Republic of Ireland international is one of Forest’s seven first-team center-backs and is plainly near the bottom of the pecking order, but he is still a promising young player.
He made 55 games for Norwich City before joining Forest, with some of those coming in the Premier League. He has also previously worked at Farke.
Omabamidele would be a major upgrade if Cresswell were to go. It would also greatly reduce the strain on Rodon’s shoulders in order for him to keep fit. It’s a no-brainer.
