Willy Gnonto, a forward for Leeds United, is said to have agreed to a five-year contract with Everton this week after declining to play on Wednesday. The Toffees and Gnonto have not yet agreed on a fee.
As their second game of the season approaches, the Whites are in a precarious position in the Championship and are certain to lose more players.
Elland Road is currently preoccupied with Willy Gnonto‘s future, largely as a result of his absence from the team yesterday.
To Everton with Willy Gnonto?
Following Gnonto‘s unwillingness to play last night, Everton appears to be stepping up their efforts to sign him this week after having their initial offer of £15 million rejected back in July.
The forward is still on Everton‘s radar, according to Fabrizio Romano, and he actually agreed to personal terms to join for the Toffees on a five-year deal this week, which is why he was absent against Shrewsbury.
Gnonto‘s priority is reportedly to move to Goodison Park, but the clubs have not yet reached an agreement on a transfer fee to bring him to Merseyside:
Take away.
Because refusing to play is unacceptable, the longer Gnonto stays at the club, the more toxic his relationship with the supporters will become.
But in order to secure a deal that’s worthwhile, we need to make sure that we’re paying north of £20 million for him.
Given how poor Everton was alongside us last season and the manager they have, it’s interesting that he’s so eager to come.
Has Dyche ever had a player of this calibre and had success with them? Time will tell, but Gnonto or Everton are not the greatest candidates here.
