Leeds United will pass on an Everton striker on loan; but an £8 million deal remains an option.

The Whites were connected with a move for Everton’s Tom Cannon, but he is apparently close to joining Preston on loan.

United appear to have missed out on a deal for Everton‘s in-demand striker Tom Cannon, who is due to join Preston North End on loan this week.

The Whites were among a slew of clubs interested in the teenager, including Championship rivals Sunderland, as Daniel Farke seeks to fix his side’s goal-scoring woes.
While Preston have been granted the go-ahead to complete a loan move for Cannon, Alan Nixon revealed this weekend that Italian side Sampdoria might still make a late £8 million approach for a permanent deal.

Cannon was an unused substitute as Everton began their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 home defeat to Fulham on Saturday, but he is expected to spend the season elsewhere.

Leeds, along with Stoke City and Sunderland, have been following his situation, and it appears that his future will be decided this week.

With Patrick Bamford out injured and Willy Gnonto at odds with the club over his future, the Whites are eager for more offensive alternatives.

They failed to score in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City and will meet promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion on Friday night.

Georginio Rutter returned from injury to play from the bench in the second half at St Andrews, replacing rookie striker Joel Gelhardt, who took Gnonto‘s place up front.
