Leeds United’s Championship opponents confirm head coaching hire

Scott Parker, former Fulham and Bournemouth manager, has replaced Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor after the Belgian moved to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

Burnley, Leeds United’s Championship rivals, have named Scott Parker as their next manager. Parker formerly managed Fulham and Bournemouth. The 43-year-old has replaced Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor, who moved to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

The former England international has been out of job since March 2023, when he was fired by Belgian side Club Bruges after only winning two of his 12 games in charge. Parker previously led Fulham and Bournemouth from the Championship to the Premier League.

He said, “I’m quite happy to be here. I’ve been communicating with Burnley for a while now, which has been beneficial because I’ve gained a better understanding of the club’s culture.

“Being around the training ground now gives you that sensation again, and I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start working. The most essential thing is that we achieve success this year. We must win and create a team that the fans and club can be proud of. This team can represent every single one of them in that way, and that is the goal.”

Burnley officials chose Parker to succeed Kompany after consulting with Ruud van Nistelrooy and former England midfielder Frank Lampard. Chairman Alan Pace stated, “We are delighted to welcome Scott to Burnley.”

“His vision for the future is consistent with our goals and ambitions to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.” His track record of accomplishment, along with a commitment to mentoring emerging talent, makes him a perfect candidate.

“We are confident he can lead us to new heights and continue to build on the solid foundations laid at Turf Moor.”

On Monday, August 12, the Clarets will visit Luton to begin their 2024/25 Championship campaign.
