Leeds United’s latest postponement due to the Met Office’s weekend weather warning

Prior to Leeds United’s return to Championship play this weekend, a weather update has been released.

On Saturday afternoon, United will travel to Humberside to play Hull City at the MKM Stadium. Leeds enters the game fresh off a 1-1 tie with Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Day, which is only the third time this season that they have lost at Elland Road.

Before the match against Hull, Daniel Farke‘s team leads the Championship standings by three points over Burnley, who are now in second place. Sheffield United is in third place and tied with Leeds on points, giving Leeds a three-point lead in the automatic promotion spots.

In their pursuit of automatic promotion to the Premier League, Leeds will be hoping to defeat Hull in yet another crucial match. However, a weather report has raised questions over this weekend’s matchups.
Throughout the UK, the Met Office has issued warnings for snow and ice on Saturday and Sunday. However, it is unclear if this will have an impact on United’s match versus Hull.

On Saturday afternoon, Humberside is under a yellow warning due to snow and ice. Leeds‘ trip to Hull may be impacted by the warning, which is in effect from 12 p.m. on Saturday until just before midnight on Sunday.

The Met Office has issued a safety warning to the public, predicting heavy snow and freezing rain across the UK this weekend.

“Outbreaks of rain spreading progressively northeastwards later on Saturday and overnight into Sunday will likely be preceded by a spell of snow on its northern flank,” the Met Office’s advisory stated.

“There is some uncertainty, but any snowfall in the southern and eastern regions of England—especially at low elevations—will most likely be brief before returning to rain.

However, there is a chance that there will be some substantial snow accumulations in areas of Wales, specifically in the Midlands and northern England, at least temporarily. There is a chance that 5 cm or more of snow will fall over a wide area, possibly reaching 20–30 cm on high ground in mid- and north Wales and possibly 30–40 cm over some areas of the Pennines.

“This, accompanied by strengthening winds, may lead to drifting of lying snow.”
