Leeds United’s squad includes one of the best set piece takers Daniel Farke has ever worked with.

Sam Greenwood is among the best free-kick takers Daniel Farke has ever worked with, but he still believes it was the right move to allow him to go on loan from Leeds United.

Greenwood is not permitted to play against his parent club tomorrow when Middlesbrough visits Elland Road in an attempt to become the first team to defeat Leeds on home soil.

Fortunately for Leeds, Daniel Farke is relieved that the 21-year-old, who has been playing well since joining Boro, won’t play at all tomorrow.

Because there were so many players ahead of him in the attack, Farke said he had “no regrets” about letting him go during his pre-game press conference.

Farke says that he still has a lot of potential as a player but did not address whether Boro’s reported £1.5 million option to buy is true.

Greenwood is improving, but it’s difficult to see Leeds come back.
Farke says Greenwood is one of the best set-piece takers he has ever worked with, having worked with him during an injury-plagued preseason. However, playing every week was essential for Greenwood.

“We are pleased that he is making the proper progress. When you loan someone out, they either return or become more valuable, so I believe it was the right choice to send him away. He is an extremely talented young player.

He is among the most proficient set piece takers I have ever encountered. He would be unmatched even in our squad, but as a young player, you have to make sure you play every day.

“He was a little unlucky to sustain his injury, and with Summerville, James, Piroe, Rutter, and Gnonto, it would have been challenging for him to get playing time. Fortunately, he is now healthy enough to play every day.

The primary concern is that he won’t score against us and that this won’t occur. He has no regrets and a good chance to look back on a really good loan. I have no regrets.

It is unlikely that Greenwood will ever return to Leeds following his loan period, even in light of Farke‘s remarks, given the rumoured permanent option Boro has.

Greenwood has already done his parent club Leeds a favour by scoring Boro’s game-winning free kick against Leicester City last month.

With Jesse Marsch squandering his potential as a deep midfielder, it is encouraging to learn that Farke thought of Greenwood as one of Leeds‘ attacking options prior to his departure.
