With a win at Preston, Daniel Farke’s team will try to keep the pressure on the top two.
Leeds United have a fantastic opportunity to close the deficit on second-placed Ipswich Town to just four points before the Tractor Boys kick action on Boxing Day.
Leeds hammered second-placed Ipswich Town 4-0 on Saturday to close the gap on them in the league position to seven points. Goals from Pascal Struijk, Pascal Struijk and Joel Piroe, as well as an own goal from former Leeds defender Leif Davis, secured a resounding victory that keeps Daniel Farke’s team in contention for automatic promotion.
They now face Preston North End in today’s early kick-off, with a win piling pressure on Kieran McKenna‘s side ahead of their crucial top-of-the-table encounter with Leicester City.
This season, Luke Ayling has been absent from many matchday teams while the majority of the group has been available. It was assumed that his absence on Saturday was due to the same reason, but the manager has confirmed an injury ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Preston.
While Farke is hopeful that his vice-captain will return soon, there could be even better news for Sam Byram. The defender and Jamie Shackleton could yet beat the deadline.
“Perhaps the same with Sam Byram.” Rehab appears to be going well, so I’m hoping he’ll be able to return sooner rather than later. We’ll see what happens in the next days.
“With Jamie Shackleton, I hope also the same, that he can be a topic in the next games and I hope Jaidon Anthony will be back pretty soon.”
Leeds United’s complete squad will face Preston North End.
Meslier, Cresswell, Firpo, Cooper, Piroe, Kamara, Bamford, Summerville, Anthony, Klaesson, Rodon, Gyabi, James, Struijk, Grey, Rutter, Darlow, Gnonto, Poveda, Hjelde, Spence, Gruev.
Doubts: Byram, Shackleton
