According to Football Transfers, Bayer Leverkusen are willing to sell alleged Tottenham target Edmond Tapsoba for £40 million this summer.
Tottenham have strengthened their centre defence with the signing of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg for £43 million.
Spurs, on the other hand, have not finished bolstering their backline, with Ange Postecolgou himself saying at the start of the week that the club wants to make more reinforcements at centre-back (Football.London).
Tapsoba has been extensively connected with a move to Spurs since the start of the summer, but there have been conflicting reports about the North London club’s pursuit of the midfielder recently.
While journalist Pete O’Rourke reported in his Football Insider column last week that the Leverkusen star is still Tottenham‘s top central-back target, Dan Kilpatrick told The Tottenham Way Podcast a few days ago that Spurs had dropped their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
Meanwhile, we relayed a rumour from the Manchester Evening News a few days ago, claiming that Manchester United had also entered the battle for the Burkina Faso international.
Tapsoba was valued at £40 million by Manchester United.
Football Transfers has now confirmed United’s interest in Tapsoba, reporting that the Red Devils are looking to reinforce their defence following the departure of Harry Maguire and have identified the Leverkusen star as a target.
However, the publication adds that the German club has informed the Premier League heavyweights that signing the centre-back will cost £40 million.
If Tapsoba is available for £40 million, Tottenham should make a move for the Leverkusen star. I believe the Bundesliga club will seek closer to £50 million or more for the 24-year-old centre-back this summer, including add-ons.
