Liverpool and Tottenham have surpassed Man Utd in the race for a €90m striker, with talks underway and a condition set for a January transfer

A striker previously signed for €90 million has a’strong chance’ of joining the Premier League next month, and Manchester United has been surpassed by Liverpool and Tottenham in the battle to complete a risky deal, according to a report.

Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all hoping to strengthen during the winter window for quite different reasons. Liverpool hopes to preserve their title lead, while Tottenham and Manchester United merely want to get their seasons back on track.

With Manchester City‘s troubles showing no signs of easing, fourth place and Champions League football appear to be available to any team that can string together a run of results in the second half of the season.

Randal Kolo Muani, a striker for PSG, is one player who all three teams are keeping an eye on. The Frenchman, who signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for €75 million with €15 million in add-ons in 2023, is not in manager Luis Enrique’s plans. As a result, the striker has been granted permission to go next month.

L’Equipe earlier reported that Manchester United were interested in a deal with PSG, who are willing to offer a six-month loan with the option/obligation to buy.

But, according to a new report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United do not intend to sign Kolo Muani in January. Furthermore, the reporter said that Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham are circling.

However, one issue that each of the interested parties must carefully consider is PSG’s new claim that an obligation to acquire, rather than an option, will be included.

Plettenberg told X: “Randal Kolo Muani is set to leave PSG during the winter transfer window.”

“Concrete discussions with potential teams about a loan agreement are underway. PSG wants to include a purchase commitment.

“Currently, there is a good likelihood he will move to the Premier League. Understand Liverpool has gathered information, but nothing has happened yet.

“Manchester United is keeping an eye on the issue, but no transfer is expected to take place in January. Tottenham and RB Leipzig are keen. More teams are interested in him.”

Kolo Muani’s PSG career is gone.
Kolo Muani remains a crucial performer for Didier Deschamps and his France team, having made 14 appearances and scored six goals in 2024.

However, his relevance and influence at the club level have decreased. Indeed, Kolo Muani has played only 350 minutes in Ligue 1 this season.

Enrique has largely preferred Marco Asensio in the primary striking role. Others have been given the nod, including Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, and, most recently, Desire Doue, with Kolo Muani making his last league start on October 6.

Of the three English teams showing interest, a move to Liverpool would undoubtedly be the most surprising.

Arne Slot already has Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez at the centre-forward position. He’s also had terrific success using Luis Diaz as a substitute striker in recent weeks.
