Liverpool and Bayern Munich are both seeking Xabi Alonso as their next manager, but the German side is now eyeing Feyenoord’s manager, who may be excellent for the Reds.
Bayern Munich could yet shift their focus away from Xabi Alonso in their manager hunt.
The Bavarians are looking for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, who is leaving at the end of the season, and Alonso has been touted as a top candidate. The Spaniard formerly played for Bayern and is now set to end their Bundesliga domination with Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool are also interested in Alonso, who formerly played at Anfield, which might result in a tug-of-war between the two European clubs. According to AZ, Bayern could explore recruiting Arne Slot from Feyenoord as their next manager. The 45-year-old’s stock continues to climb in Rotterdam.
Slot has been in command of the Eredivisie team since 2021, leading them to the league title last season. He’s also made an impact in Europe, leading Feyenoord to the final of the Europa Conference League’s debut season, where they were defeated by Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
The Dutchman was on Tottenham‘s radar in the summer before signing a new contract to continue with Feyenoord. Slot has stated that if he does move on, it will be to a club outside of the Netherlands, having previously led AZ Alkmaar.
He stated last summer, “My next move will not be a club in Holland. If that is my next move, then I have absolutely failed. The typical next step will be to travel abroad, and I’ve always said that the Premier League is the best league in the world.”
