Liverpool’s interest in Xabi Alonso may be waning due to a recent shift at the club, prompting them to explore elsewhere.
Liverpool may make a surprise management hire in the coming months that does not include Xabi Alonso, following a recent development at Anfield.
Xabi Alonso has been heavily connected with a transfer to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool since the German manager revealed his decision to quit the club in January.
And the move has appeared to be a done deal for the past month or so.
That may not happen now that former sporting director Michael Edwards has returned to power at Anfield. Liverpool‘s owners, FSG, named Edwards as their football CEO earlier this month.
Which will see him move into a more comprehensive position at the club, where his responsibilities will include managing the ownership‘s acquisition of another team.
Having already had a significant influence on signings at the club during his tenure as sports director from 2016 to 2022, including deals for Mohamed Salah.
Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson, a fresh report says that Edwards could have a similar impact in their search for the next manager.
“Six months before everyone else, he knows who the players and coaches are.
Which is why I believe he will pull a rabbit out of the hat with the next coach, and it will be a surprise that it is not Xabi Alonso.
We’ll see, but I believe Edwards is critical to this in the sense that he is the player that Liverpool has brought back because they know he is good. They understand he’s the best in the world at what he does.”
