Liverpool’s injury news includes Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, and more.
Liverpool‘s Premier League title hopes are in their own hands.
With nine matches remaining, the Reds lead the table by two points.
Jurgen Klopp’s team defeated Brighton 2-1 before drawing 0-0 with rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.
However, Klopp understands that the injured list is still too long, and he will want as many players back as possible for the remaining matches. Especially because Liverpool is also hoping to win the Europa League.
Liverpool has two games this week, first hosting Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday and then travelling to Old Trafford to face arch rivals Manchester United.
Ahead of those games, here’s an update on the current injury situation and when some players could return to action.
Curtis Jones – Ankle
The midfielder has missed the last nine games after being forced off in a 4-1 win over Brentford on February 17th. Jones is currently back in squad training, though.
Sheffield United (H) could play a return game on Thursday, April 4.
Andy Robertson – Ankle
The left-back suffered an injury in Scotland’s 1-0 loss to Northern Ireland last week. Robertson’s injury isn’t as serious as first thought, but he’s unlikely to return for Sheffield United.
Potential return game: Manchester United (A), Sunday, April 7.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – Knee
The Liverpool vice-captain has been sidelined for nearly two months after worsening a previous injury.
Alexander-Arnold could make a partial comeback to training this week, but the Reds will probably be cautious.
Potential return games include Atalanta (H) on Thursday, April 11, and Crystal Palace (H) on Sunday, April 14.
Diogo Jota – Knee
The Portugal international has been sidelined since being stretchered off against Brentford. Jota appears to be in a similar position as Alexander-Arnold in terms of his recovery.
Potential return games include Atalanta (H) on Thursday, April 11, and Crystal Palace (H) on Sunday, April 14.
Alisson Becker’s hamstring
The No. 1 custodian has been out for about two months due to a hamstring injury. Alisson is another player who could return to some training this week.
Potential return games include Atalanta (H) on Thursday, April 11, and Crystal Palace (H) on Sunday, April 14.
Stefan Bajcetic – Other
The 19-year-old midfielder has completed his own pre-season programme despite ongoing concerns. Bajcetic is due to return to full training with the under-21s this week and will require some time and minutes to catch up.
Possible return game: N/A
Thiago Alcantara is hip.
Due to an ongoing issue, the midfielder has only made one replacement appearance. Klopp has previously stated that he does not know if Thiago will play again this season.
Possible return game: N/A
Joel Matip’s knee
The defender sustained an ACL injury nearly four months ago. Matip has been seen running outside again, but he may not appear again this season.
Possible return game: N/A
Ben Doak’s knee
The 18-year-old winger suffered a knee injury in December and had to undergo surgery. He’s still working on his comeback.
