Lo Celso: “I’m loving this new chapter at the Club”

Giovani Lo Celso is having a good time at Spurs right now.

The Argentina international midfielder is approaching 100 appearances for us after joining from Real Betis in 2019 and spending time on loan, and while he has only started four of his ten games this season, more game time could be on the way as we deal with a slew of injuries, suspensions, and players heading off to compete in international tournaments.

Gio has demonstrated his ability in the left-sided number eight role in our fluid 4-3-3 formation and demonstrated his ability to dominate the midfield against elite opponents when he started recent matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Gio’s availability and form will be critical heading into 2024, beginning with our New Year’s Eve meeting against an in-form Bournemouth side as we try to close the calendar year on a positive note.

Gio revealed in the matchday programme for Sunday’s game against the Cherries: “It’s where I’m playing right now, as an eight, and I love it.” With this coach, I see a lot of the ball; I feel more at ease and enjoy witnessing action since every player knows what they need to do.

“I’ve played in a variety of positions over the years, but I’m most comfortable playing further forward in a number eight role or behind the striker – I prefer this area of the pitch.” If the coach like, I can also play deeper.

“I’m just really happy and enjoying this new era at the Club with my team-mates, and I’m starting to feel more at ease.”

“I think that the coach has got the most out of all of the players because he has a clear playing style that we love – me especially – and we’ve always shown our best side and had chances to win even when we’ve lost.”
