Leeds United have had a difficult summer, with several players leaving the club following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.
And Daniel Farke‘s first few games as manager have reflected that difficult summer. The Whites are winless in their first three Championship games this season, drawing twice and losing once.
However, it appears that they are now on the verge of some positive news in the transfer market. After announcing the signing of Joel Piroe from Swansea City, they are currently in advanced talks about another transaction, which could be the end of the road for another player at the club.
Leeds have launched an £8.5 million bid for Genk winger Joseph Paintsil, according to reliable journalist David Ornstein on Twitter (August 25), with the player eager to move from Belgium to England.
“Paintsil has told Genk that joining Leeds is his preference, and personal terms for the 25-year-old Ghana international would not be an issue,” Ornstein wrote in The Athletic’s transfer column on August 25.
Of course, because Paintsil is a winger, this might mean that Luis Sinisterra will leave Elland Road to create room in the squad and on the books for the player from Genk.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post (24 August), Sinisterra is back in first-team training, as verified by Farke himself, following some uncertainty regarding his contractual condition and future at the club.
Nonetheless, while he is again back in contention, the arrival of Paintsil might change everything very fast. West Yorkshire‘s budget is tight right now, and there isn’t enough capacity for a lot of big-money players.
The Colombian joined from Feyenoord last summer and, despite being demoted, performed admirably, netting five goals in just over 800 minutes of Premier League action.
Injuries drastically limited his playing time, denying fans the opportunity to see what he was truly capable of. Leeds‘ season could have ended differently if he had been fit more often.
While his ultimate potential may never be realised if he leaves, Sinisterra will be quickly forgotten if Paintsil arrives at the club and hits the ground running.
