Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly in the running to capture 16-year-old Tottenham Hotspur sensation Mikey Moore.
The 16-year-old has been heralded as one of the most promising prospects to emerge from the Lilywhites academy and was promoted to the first squad by Ange Postecoglou in the final stages of the season.
Moore made his competitive debut for Tottenham as a substitute in their 2-0 Premier League loss to Manchester City, and he also appeared briefly against Sheffield United on the last day.
The attacker was promoted to the first team after excelling at Under-18 level for the Lilywhites in 2023-24, scoring a staggering 25 goals in just 14 games between the Under-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.
Moore scored 14 goals and eight assists in 12 Under-18 Premier League games, and he had already played two matches for the club’s Under-21s in the 2022-23 season.
Manchester Giants’submit’ contract offers to Moore
Because the 2007-born superstar will not turn 17 until August, he remains on scholarship at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is unable to sign a professional contract for a few more weeks pursuant to FA regulations.
Tottenham are likely to do everything they can to sign Moore when he turns 21 on August 11, but three European clubs are vying for his services, according to Football Insider.
Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City have reportedly sent contract offers to Moore’s camp, while Borussia Dortmund has apparently made a “massive” offer.
Moore, Tottenham’s youngest Premier League player, is reported to have yet to make a decision on his future, although Postecoglou wants him to be more involved in the first team next season.
In addition to his success with Tottenham, the attacker has 10 goals and four assists for England’s Under-17s, scoring four times to finish just one goal behind Golden Boot winner Rodrigo Mora of Portugal.
Moore could succeed top compatriots in Manchester.
It would not be surprising if Moore decided that his immediate future lies at Tottenham, but if he continues to perform in the same manner and Spurs fail to win trophies, a move to Manchester cannot be ruled out.
At Manchester United, the 16-year-old might be the long-term replacement to either Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford, both of whom are expected to leave the club in the coming weeks.
Erik ten Hag‘s latest contract extension implies that Sancho should have little chance of returning to the first team, although Rashford may be permitted to leave for the right price if his troubles resume in 2023-24.
Meanwhile, Jack Grealish‘s future at Manchester City is being called into doubt, as he is still not justifying his £100 million price tag three years after joining from Aston Villa.
