Max Aarons is a target for Leeds United

With the two clubs in advanced negotiations over a deal that may top £12 million, Leeds United is in the lead to sign Norwich City full defender Max Aarons.

Before the season started, Southampton was extensively connected to the England Under-21 European Championship champion, but Daniel Farke‘s Whites are now seen to be in the driver’s seat.

Discussions with prospective suitors are still ongoing, but considering that Aarons, 23, has entered the final year of his Carrow Road contract, it is likely that he will leave before the transfer deadline next month.

Aarons won two league championships under the German after Farke gave the fullback his senior debut in green and yellow.

With 213 senior games, Aarons has become the club’s longest-tenured player. However, he and fellow free agent winger Milot Rashica have been on the sidelines since their delayed preseason returns due to their exploits with the Young Lions.

In the summer, City brought in Jack Stacey, who impressed once more in the 2-1 Championship victory over Hull City on the first day.

Since moving from Bromley, teenage prospect Kellen Fisher has also shown out, and head coach David Wagner has authorised a transfer for Bali Mumba.

At the beginning of the summer, Aarons and City’s sports director Stuart Webber laid out the player’s future with the club.

Due to Liam Cooper and Junior Firpo‘s early-season injuries, Leeds seems to be looking to add to their defensive line.

Additionally, reports from Monday night indicate that Tottenham centre defender Joe Rodon will be on loan to Yorkshire for the entire season.

Sam Byram, a former Norwich defender who was released after playing for the Canaries, reconnected with Farke at his old team and entered the game against Cardiff City at Elland Road on Sunday as a second-half replacement.
